ABOUT BEAUTIFUL LBI

Long Beach Island (LBI) is an 18-mile-long barrier island off the coast of New Jersey.  The island is governed by six municipalities including Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, Long Beach Township, and Beach Haven. LBI is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, fishing, and prime real estate. LBI was settled around 1690 as a destination for hunters. Barnegat Inlet is off the far north end of the island; it was used for freight shipments and whaling from the 17th century through the 20th century. Around 1859, the famed Barnegat Lighthouse “Old Barney” was built to guide ships through the inlet.

Barnegat Light is located on the far north end of the island. Barnegat Light is home to the historical Lighthouse, “Old Barney.” Old Barney is located in Barnegat Light State Park. Barnegat Light State Park is a local tourist attraction where you can climb the lighthouse, walk the inlet and explore the wildlife preserves hosting a variety of species like mink, fox, raccoons, and more. Barnegat Light is known for its peaceful environment and wide beaches. It is also home port of many members of the East Coast’s longline fleet bringing in fresh fish and locally known for dayboat scallops that melt in your mouth. Grab breakfast at Mustache Bill's quintessential shore diner, coffee, or lunch at Viking Village and dinner and drinks at Kubel's or the Daymark Restaurants. Surf City is a walkable area that provides the perfect amount of accessibility and privacy. For more information on Surf City go to visitsurfcitylbi.com

Ship Bottom is one of the most popular towns on Long Beach Island due to its convenient location. Ship Bottom is located directly at the foot of the Dorland J. Henderson Memorial Bridge onto LBI. It may be a popular spot for day-trippers, but it also has multiple hotels and private rentals for visitors looking to stay in one of the most popular areas on the island. Greeted by the LBI Hotel and Spa when you cross the bridge you will also find many eateries, bagel shops, mini-golf, ice cream, liquor stores, gift shops, and more in this area of the island. Long Beach Township is made up of 15 towns including High Bar Harbor, Loveladies, North Beach, Brant Beach, Brighton Beach, Beach Haven Crest, Peahala Park, Beach Haven Park, Haven Beach, The Dunes, Beach Haven Terrace, Beach Haven Gardens, Spray Beach, North Beach Haven, and Holgate. Long Beach Township makes up the biggest municipality with various towns located in different areas of the island. Also north, Loveladies and North Beach provide a bit more space between neighbors and less densely populated beaches. All other towns are located on the south end and have plenty of options for shopping, ice cream, food, and fun. For more information on Long Beach Township visit www.longbeachtownship.com
